No matter why you’ve decided to move—whether you wanted a new home or neighborhood or took a new job in a different city—you’ll likely put a lot of time and effort into planning. You’ll choose a local moving company, make a schedule for your departure, and wrap up any loose ends before you go.

But after you’ve spent all that time making checklists and getting everything ready for your move, what happens once you’re actually there? It can be a little overwhelming as you stand in your new home. Now it’s up to you to get everything organized. Where do you begin? Here are three tips to help you get started after the moving truck leaves.

  1. Get organized. Yes, you thought you were done with checklists. However, this is one of the best ways to keep track of everything that needs to be done. Take out your smartphone or a pen and paper and organize your thoughts into tasks that cause you to take action. You’ll be marking things off your to-do list in no time.
  2. Give your new home a quick inspection. Look for any signs of damage that weren’t there when you visited with your realtor. Make sure you know where the fuse box and water stop valve are. Test smoke detectors and make sure windows are locked.
  3. Start unpacking boxes. It’s tempting to take your time unpacking. There aren’t any deadlines like there were when you were moving out. But the quicker you start, the quicker you’ll finish. Tackle the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen first.
